Andriani Georgiou-Bio
Andriani Georgiou, after receiving her PhD in Byzantine Studies from the University of Birmingham in 2013, has held research and teaching positions at the Open University of Cyprus, the Centre of Cultural Heritage, the University of Cyprus, and the Aix-Marseille University. Her research interests are focused on the history and art of the Eastern Mediterranean in the late antique and Byzantine periods (c.300-c.1500). Specifically, she is interested in assessing the ways in which past people’s perception was shaped on three areas of inquiry: the relation between the sphere of government and that of religion; the distinction between masculine and feminine roles; and cultural transformations. Given of the many facets of these complex problems and the principle that no society is static, her research is guided by an interdisciplinary methodology, focusing particularly on the interrelationships between verbal and visual communication.
