Bilge Ar-Bio

Bilge Ar completed her bachelors of architecture in Istanbul Technical University (ITU) in 2003 and worked in several fields of architecture such as architectural design, conservation and architectural web design until 2005, when she started her current job as an academician in ITU, Architecture Faculty, Department of Architecture History. In 2006 she completed her M.Sc. thesis titled “Urban and Architectural Environment in Istanbul under Allied Forces” and in 2014 her PhD thesis titled “Hagia Eirene and its Surroundings through Ottoman Era” in ITU, Graduate School of Science, Engineering and Technology, Architecture History Program. During the fall and winter terms of 2011-2012 academic year she continued her studies in the University of Oxford, Faculty of Oriental Studies, Khalili Research Center and in 2017-2018 fall and winter terms she worked under CNRS (Centre national de la recherché scientifique) in the research unit “Monde byzantin” part of UMR8167 in Paris. She has been attending archaeological field studies of Greek and majorly Early Byzantine settlements since 2006 in Nif-Olympos in Buca, İzmir, Larisa in Menemen, İzmir, Binbirkilise in Karaman, Aya Tekla and Mylai in Silifke and Dara Anastasiopolis in Mardin. She had been running her own architectural and archaeological survey on the mid Byzantine fortified settlement of Skopelos in Kırklareli together with archaeologist Jesko Fildhuth in 2015-2017. Her main fields of studies are: Occupation years of Istanbul after WWI, Early Byzantine settlements and architecture, Ottoman architecture.
